Frequently Asked Questions about the Sparta T&F/CC Booster Club
1. What does the Booster Club do? Primarily, the Club (a group of volunteers -- mostly parents) boosts the Sparta High School track and field / cross country student athletes and teams by providing support in a number of important areas. Our goals include awarding scholarships to eligible college bound senior student athletes, raising funds to buy equipment, improving facilities, and fulfilling the teams' wish list requests. The Club also offers recognition opportunities for student athletes and the teams, such as the teams' end-of-season recognition events.
2. How does the Booster Club raise money for these contributions to the teams? Most of the money spent on students and teams is earned through Booster Club dues, concession stand revenue, meet program ads, merchandise and apparel sales and special fund-raising activities (see our "Fundraising" page).
3. How much does it cost to join? Annual membership dues are just $25. Membership in the Club is open to parents or guardians of students of Sparta High School, alumni of Sparta High School, members of the faculty, administration, and staff of Sparta High School, and members of the community who desire to support student athletes at Sparta High School. We would like to have all of our parents join the Booster Club. However, parental involvement in the Booster Club, including contributions and donations, is not a prerequisite to student participation in team activities.
4. If I join, what can I do? I have special interest in my child's team but limited time in my busy schedule. Your level of involvement in the Booster Club is up to you. The Club is always looking for more parents and others to help build support for the programs for now and in the future. The least time-consuming, yet targeted approach to help your son's or daughter's team is to simply join the Booster Club. With your membership, you will receive a Sparta Winged Foot decal. In addition, you will receive periodic updates of Booster Club meetings and activities through email if you give your email address. Another way to be involved is to attend Club meetings. You can also help out in the concession tent at home meets and assist in other Booster Club fund raising activities. You can attend the meets, buy advertising in the programs, purchase team apparel and merchandise, sponsor a scholarship. Anything positive that you do is needed and appreciated.
6. Doesn't the school district or the high school cover all costs for the teams? No. They provide for the basic items such as uniforms and necessary equipment. However, the coaches often seek additional items, and the Booster Club has been there to assist when possible. We also help organize and finance the recognition dinners and the teams' "pizza parties" and "tailgate parties".
7. How do I become Sparta Track & Field / Cross Country Booster Club member? It's easy! Fill out a membership form, remit the necessary funds, and you will become a ST&F/CC Booster. Call our Membership Coordinator, Anita Warren-Hampson at 973-726-5096 if you need more information.
8. And finally . . . what's "Citius - Altius - Fortius?" This is the official Olympic Motto, a Latin phrase meaning "swifter, higher, stronger", which we use to describe the athletic achievements of our student-athletes.
